I grew up in a home with amazing cooks- the best- my mother and grandmother. We also had an aunt that took care of us and also baked all sorts of cakes and cookies. One day my dear auntie moved back home to be with her daughter and grand babies and I had no more access to the amazing desserts of my childhood. My mother and grandma didn’t do a whole lot of baking except for a few family recipes that showed up on special occasions. I had no other choice than to learn how to bake on my own. I started off reading the back of cake and pancake boxes, eventually I took a cake decorating class, then I learned how to cook, I had friends teach me how to grill and I taught myself how to smoke meat!

My favorite pie is apple, I would eat a whole large Sam’s club apple pie by myself per week when I was a teenager but I had never had a homemade apple pie. So I gave it a shot and it turned out ok; I chose the wrong apples. A while later I took a crack at a pumpkin pie but with my own twist and after a few version I had a yearly Thanksgiving tradition! I decided to try Apple Pie again and it took me over 2 years to get it just right, my persistence finally paid off!
